Entering this year, just three high school basketball players have ever scored more than 5,000 points in a career. Alabama's Tommy Murr has now joined that exclusive list.

Murr, a senior at Lindsay Lane Christian School in Athens, Alabama, finished his career earlier this month with a state-record 5,716 points. That total, when approved by the Alabama High School Athletic Association, ranks second all time, behind only Louisiana's Greg Procell who scored 6,702 points from 1967-70.

“I am thankful for how God has blessed our school, this team and myself as an individual,” Murr said. “I am thankful for the healthy career I had. I am thankful for the friendships and bonds I was able to build with some of my best friends. To have been coached by my father and the best coaches a kick could ask for ... I will forever cherish my high school career.”

Murr ended his career as the AHSAA’s all-time leading scorer by more than 1,000 points.
